Nuisance bet asks SC to postpone polls
MANILA, Philippines – A Commission on Elections-declared nuisance presidential candidate asked the Supreme Court yesterday to postpone the May 9 elections.
Retired Army Col. Justino Padiernos of the People’s Freedom Party told the SC the polls should not proceed since the legal questions of disqualified candidates like him have not been resolved.
“They allowed a candidate who is American and also another one who is a serial killer,” he told reporters. “How come they won’t allow me to run when I have served this country?”
Padiernos suggested that instead of holding a presidential election, members of Congress should be allowed to elect the next president.
“Of course, I should be included among the choices,” he said.
Representing Padiernos is Manuelito Luna, who is also the lawyer of former senator Francisco Tatad in questioning the presidential candidacy of Sen. Grace Poe.
