Drugs found in Bilibid raid
MANILA, Philippines – Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) personnel confiscated sachets of shabu and drug paraphernalia during a raid on the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) medium security compound yesterday.
Richard Schwarzkopf, NBP superintendent, said the “Operation Galugad” raid – the 30th since November last year – was conducted on the two-story Dormitory 6, occupied by at least 500 inmates.
He said the shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) and paraphernalia were seized from one of the inmates, who “has been placed under investigation and faces criminal charges.”
Under local prison rules, inmates caught with contraband could have their visiting privileges suspended and their good conduct credits reduced.
A convict is entitled to at least 20 days of good conduct credits that will be deducted from his or her sentence.
Mobile phones, charges, wi-fi devices, bladed weapons and a homemade 12-gauge shotgun without ammunition were also confiscated from the inmates, Schwarzkopf said.
