Palace condoles with Vizconde family

Alexis Romero - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang expressed yesterday its condolences to the family of Lauro Vizconde, who died Saturday after suffering four successive heart attacks.

“We condole with the family of Mr. Lauro Vizconde, who passed away yesterday,” Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said over dzRB.

Coloma said Vizconde served as a member of the board of the government-supervised television station Intercontinental Broadcasting Corp. since 2008.

Vizconde was one of the founders and chairman emeritus of the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC).

Vizconde’s family said he suffered from cardiac arrest caused by diabetic and pulmonary complications. He was 77.

The family said Vizconde had dedicated his life helping victims of heinous crimes.

Vizconde founded the VACC after his wife and two daughters were murdered in their house in Parañaque in 1991.

Hubert Webb, son of former senator Freddie Webb, and six others were convicted of the crime in 2000.

Webb and five of his co-accused were acquitted by the Supreme Court in 2010.
