2 dead, 1 hurt as worker beat up family

MANILA, Philippines – A woman and her son were killed and her husband was hospitalized after one of three workers they hired beat them with a metal pipe at their home in Quezon City Monday.

The Quezon City Police District has launched a manhunt for Virgilio del Rosario, the man who reportedly beat up Reuben Villanueva; his wife, Princesita; and their son, Christian.

Del Rosario’s two alleged accomplices, Edilberto Escandor and Bernabe Escario, are in police custody.

The three suspects were staying at the Villanuevas’ home in Barangay Commonwealth after Reuben hired them to build a house on the lot next door. They had been drinking just before the attack.

Del Rosario hit Reuben just as the man was going to the ground-floor bathroom at past midnight.

The suspect then turned on Christian, who had gone downstairs when he heard the commotion. Christian died at the scene.

Del Rosario proceeded to the main bedroom, where he killed Princesita with the same metal pipe.

Del Rosario and Escandor fled the scene while police found Escario still in the house, drunk.

Reuben called police after he regained consciousness. He was taken to the FEU General Hospital for treatment.

Escandor’s mother turned him in to the Mandaluyong police later that night.
