Man gunned down in Tondo

MANILA, Philippines - A 29-year-old man was shot dead by two men on a motorcycle in Tondo, Manila early yesterday morning.

Alexander Nunez, of Rawis Street, Tondo died from five bullet wounds, according to Senior Police Officer 2 Charles John Duran of the Manila Police District homicide unit.

Duran said residents of Chesa street were roused from sleep after hearing successive gunshots at around 3 a.m.

Josephine Villaruel and Josua Basilio rushed out of their house to see what happened and bumped into the fleeing suspects.

The witnesses failed to identify the assailants, who were wearing masks. They found Nunez bloodied and rushed him to the Mary Johnston Hospital but he did not make it.

Police probers are looking into an illegal drug deal as a possible motive for the killing.
