P5.4-M fake footwear seized in Pasay
MANILA, Philippines – Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) seized some P5.4 million worth of fake Havaianas slippers during a raid in Baclaran, Pasay City recently, an official said yesterday.
Detectives of the CIDG’s Anti-Fraud and Commercial Crimes Unit (AFCCU) simultaneously served search warrants on the stalls in 899 Shopping Center and Harrison Wholesale Center.
CIDG chief Director Victor Deona said 5,479 pairs of Coolsi slippers, which bear a logo similar to Havaianas footwear, were confiscated.
He said the operation stemmed from a complaint letter from the Hechanova Bugay Vilchez and Arcadio-Anday law firm, which asked for the CIDG’s assistance in the investigation and prosecution of those distributing fake Havaianas products.
Superintendent Bowenn Joey Masauding, AFCCI chief, said the stall owners and managers will be charged with trademark infringement and unfair competition.
