MMDA clears 2 mabuhay lanes

Mike Frialde - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Metropolitan Manila Development Authority personnel cleared two mabuhay lanes in Quezon City and Manila yesterday as part of the MMDA’s drive to clear routes motorists can take as alternatives to EDSA during the Christmas season.

The 17 lanes were set as alternative routes by the MMDA for motorists who would like to bypass heavy traffic on the 23.8-kilometer EDSA.

Members of Task Force Mabuhay towed away 12 illegally parked vehicles and issued traffic violation tickets to 48 motorists whose vehicles were not towed away because the MMDA lacked tow trucks, task force co-head Ed Lara said.

“It was just unfortunate that all the tow trucks have been deployed and we just issued them tickets,” he said. “If we had more tow trucks, we would have towed more vehicles.”

Lara said the erring motorists removed their vehicles after being issued tickets.

The MMDA cleared mabuhay lane 2 (West Avenue to Dapitan street) and lane 5 (E. Rodriguez Avenue to Osmeña Highway).

Lara said the Highway Patrol Group will join the drive to clear mabuhay lanes as Christmas draws near.
