Mangrove farm to turn Baseco into tourist spot
MANILA, Philippines - The Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC) and the ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya plan to set up a mangrove farm at the Baseco compound in Tondo, Manila and turn the slum area into a tourist spot.
Gina Lopez, chairman of PRRC and ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya led the launching yesterday of the first mangrove farm in Baseco during the ocular inspection of the access road development project that was recently completed.
“The PRRC sees enormous potential in the Baseco development, it being the first mangrove farm in the city of Manila that will become a tourist spot,” Lopez said.
Lopez said the PRRC has high hopes the Baseco access road project will boost the Baseco Mangrove Nursery Farm that is a major component of the commission’s greening project.
The mangrove nursery farm is seen by the PRRC as a means to benefit the community, people’s organizations and the environment in general.
Lopez said the project is also supported by the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Public Works and Highways, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, Philippine Coastal & River Guards Aggrupation and the city governemnt of Manila.
