CAAP checking 2 airlines’ compliance with safety standards

MANILA, Philippines - The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is looking into moves by two airlines, suspended over safety concerns, to ensure that their operations comply with international safety standards, an official said yesterday.

CAAP director general William Hotchkiss III said he met with Skyjet Airlines president Dino Reyes Chua and Seair chairman Irene Dornier to discuss their actions to correct the safety concerns cited by a European Union assessment team, which prompted the CAAP to suspend their air operator certificates on May 18.

He said the concerns raised by EU aviation experts are now the subject of inspections and validation by the CAAP.
