Wanted man slain in Pasay shootout

MANILA, Philippines - A man, wanted for a string of criminal cases, died when his group traded shots with police in Pasay City early yesterday morning.

Police identified the slain fugitive as Jeric de Asis. His four companions Reynaldo de Asis, Mark Lee Mendoza, Susana de Asis and Gierol Gaitos were arrested, said Southern Police District director Chief Superintendent Jose Erwin Villacorte.

Villacorte said authorities were supposed to serve a warrant for De Asis’ arrest at his hideout on Tramo street when the suspects engaged police officers in a shootout.

Seized from the suspects were two .45 caliber pistols, a .38 Armscor revolver and ammunition.
