Toddler found dead under parked jeepney

MANILA, Philippines - A one-year-old girl was found dead under a parked passenger jeepney in San Juan City yesterday.

Investigators are checking whether the girl was raped since she was found naked from the waist down and had lacerations in her genitals, according to San Juan police officer-in-charge Superintendent Jose Rivera.

As of 6 p.m. yesterday, nobody has claimed the body of the still unidentified girl, who was last seen alive at around 1 a.m. yesterday.

Driver Efren Martinez found the girl’s body while he was cleaning his jeepney along Don Ejercito street in Barangay Tibagan at around 8:30 a.m.

Rivera said a closed-circuit television camera installed at a nearby house caught a man walking in the area while carrying the girl, who was still alive at past 3 a.m.

The man was wearing a white striped shirt and a denim shorts, said Rivera.

The San Juan police chief said nobody in the area recognized the man.

The San Juan police are also looking for a woman who earlier reported that her child was missing.
