MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero has proposed a massive joint government-private sector initiative to address the perennial problem of flooding in Metro Manila and other parts of the country.
“We need to clean up our waterways, and we need to make sure that our waterways stay clean. Otherwise, we will continue to suffer flooding forever,” said Escudero, chairman of the Senate committee on environment and natural resources.
Escudero batted for public-private partnership (PPP) initiatives in areas prone to flooding.
He made the call after tropical storm “Gener” pounded Metro Manila and nearby areas, prompting local governments to conduct rescue operations in flooded areas.
