Man shot dead by drink buddy

CEBU, Philippines - A 30-year-old man was shot dead by his drinking buddy during a fiesta celebration in Sitio Salvador, Barangay Tanke, Talisay City last Saturday afternoon.

The victim, Jesus Reyes Nino, 30, single, sustained gunshot wound to his back. He was allegedly shot by Richard Daan Cabando, 38, single.

Cabando is the cousin of Richie Daan, who was tagged as a “notorious criminal” in Metro Cebu and killed in a shootout with the police last year.

Daan’s name was linked to the series of robberies and killings in Talisay City and parts of Cebu.

Senior Police Officer 2 Yvonne Ilustrisimo of Talisay City Police Station said the victim and the suspect were having drinking spree to celebrate the fiesta, but in the middle of their revelry, a heated argument ensued between them.

The argument prompted the suspect to pull out his firearm and to shoot the victim from behind.

The victim fell to the ground and was later rushed to Talisay City District Hospital, but the attending physician declared him dead on arrival.

Responding police officers did not recover any empty shells at the crime scene, leading them to theorize the suspect may have used a revolver in shooting the victim.

Ilustrisimo said the suspect fled after the incident.

He said the suspect had no record of crime in their office before the incident.

A follow-up operation is still conducted for his possible arrest. (FREEMAN)
