Man found floating dead in Talisay waters

CEBU, Philippines - Two fishermen found a body of a yet unidentified man floating in the seawaters off Barangay Biasong, Talisay City yesterday dawn.

Pablo Restauro and Raymund Vincent Hernan of Sitio Sunrise, Barangay Pooc found the man floating dead while they were fishing in the area, according to the city police.

Restauro and Hernan were then catching fish when they noticed body. They dragged it to the shore with the use of rope and called then for police assistance.

Responding police officers told The FREEMAN they never saw any wounds on the victim's body.

They assessed that the victim could be around 30 to 35 years old, about 5'3" to 5'5" in height and medium built, wearing gray shorts without upper garments.

Superintendent Germano Mallari, chief of Talisay City police, said they brought the cadaver to Saint Francis Funeral Homes. He recommended for an autopsy to determine the cause of the man’s death.

As of press time yesterday, a certain Julito Pernia Sr. appeared at Talisay City Police Station and said he wanted to see the cadaver.

Mallari said Pernia has a son who suffered depression and went missing lately.

Last Monday morning, a man was also found floating dead in the waters off Gapas-Gapas islet in Barangay Day-as in Cordova town.

Police Officer 3 Erwin Hedorio of Cordova Police Station said a certain fisherman, identified as Alexander Pacaldo, found the dead body around 9 a.m. as he was about to catch fish in the same area.

Pacaldo told police about his discovery.

Hedorio did not find any identification cards with the body but based on police description, the man was only wearing underwear, around 30 to 35 years of age and about 5'2" to 5'4" tall.

He added the man has a medium body build, with a thick facial hair.

Police said the body was not yet identified and that they are still conducting a follow-up investigation.

Last November 13, a woman with stab wounds was also found dead in an abandoned wharf in Barangay Canjulao, Lapu-Lapu City.

Police Officer 3 Lydo Pinos of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office-Homicide Section said the woman who was found lying on the rocks did not bear any identification cards. — Gabriel C. Bonjoc of BANAT News
