Town eyes projects to benefit children

CEBU, Philippines – Consolacion town officials are now beginning to give due attention to the issues concerning children.

Mayor Teresa Alegado called a meeting with the members of the Municipal Council for the Welfare of Children, department heads and members of the municipal council who are chairing committees concerning children.

During the meeting, they agreed to closely coordinate and implement programs mean to uplift the welfare of children in their town.

Earlier, Mayor Alegado said one of the priorities of her administration is to implement programs to benefit the children.

Child pornography and children used by criminals to commit crimes, especially illegal drugs, have alarmed town officials, they said.

Alegado was the one who aired her concerns on the problem of child pornography after the arrest of some of them in Cordova town.

Police also reported that children were used by suspected drug pushers in their illegal activities.

Barangay officials have also been tapped by the police in the campaign against illegal drugs in Consolacion.
