MANILA, Philippines -  British United Automobiles, Inc. (BUAI), the exclusive distributor of MINI vehicles in the Philippines, recently joined and lorded over this year’s results of the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Fuel Economy Run.

The government-initiated program is an annual activity that aims to raise awareness and empower consumers on the importance of fuel economy in their day-to-day drive.

A total of 52 participants made up of sedans, SUVs, MPVs, and pickups; 26 of which participated in the diesel category.

In the diesel category, MINI featured their second-generation premium compact MINI Cooper D Countryman. After the run, MINI’s entry registered a fuel consumption of 30.64 kilometers per liter.

The diesel-powered Countryman, which was launched earlier this year, is equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder TwinPower Turbo diesel engine that generates 150hp and 330Nm of torque, enough to provide superb acceleration and fuel economy especially in ordinary driving conditions.

“We are very happy with the results that DOE conducted in providing consumers an opportunity to know the capability of different cars and how significant fuel economy in our day-to-day drive,” said MINI Philippines President Willy Q. Tee Ten.

“MINI is an iconic and fun to drive car. The MINI Cooper D Countryman has all the qualities that you want in a car such as fuel economy, power and comfort,” he added.

To test the fuel mileage of each vehicle, representatives from DOE and members of the media, which served as official observers during the event, set a normal speed for each car, where they need to travel at a controlled speed of 80 kilometers per hour.

The Fuel Economy Run started at Petron Service Station in Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga, passing through SCTEX (Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway) and TPLEX (Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union expressway) and taking the exit at Binalonan, Pangasinan, before heading back to Petron in Clark to check and compute the fuel consumption that every car accumulated.

The diesel-fed Countryman proved its worth in the long-distance drive as well, thanks to its MacPherson Strut axle at front and multi-links at the rear.

“With the congested traffic, it’s so important that we get involved in how our vehicles perform on traffic and the cost that it attributes in a long run,” claims Tee Ten.

Meanwhile, for those who are planning to buy the MINI Cooper D Countryman from Nov. 6 to Dec. 31, MINI is offering potential buyers a chance to travel to United Kingdom for FREE via their “Drive Home a MINI and Fly to MINI Plant Oxford” promo.
