Finally, a dating app created for Pinays

MANILA, Philippines – Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and many Filipinas are still dateless.

For those who are still not losing hope to finally meet “The One” as Valentine’s Day is approaching, here’s a dating application you might want to try: Peekawoo.

Peekawoo is a dating app which is the brainchild of two Filipinas, Valenice Balace and Mara Ang.

“The Western dating apps doesn't fit the conservative Filipinos,” said Balace, explaining how they came up with such application, in an interview on ANC’s tech show “Future Perfect” on Wednesday.

She added that the idea came after she has tried several dating apps, but failed to find the right match.

Just like any other dating apps, one should first create a profile which is linked to either their Facebook or Twitter accounts. This is also the management’s way of ensuring the safety of their users.

“We don't sign in people using their own email,” she explained. “We usually tie it up with Facebook or Twitter. Then we usually check if that profile has photos that have been taken recently. Kasi mamaya Facebook na walang laman naman.”

So how do you know if you’re viewing a person who is a “match” for you? Here you can ask the person viewing your profile several questions.

There are five pre-set questions for the one viewing your profile, but the user has an option to personalize the questions.

If the viewer’s answers matches the user’s answers, the app will say “It’s a match” and they can start messaging each other.

As of their latest data gathered, they have 12,000 users worldwide, and 40 percent of it are Filipinas aged 20-30.

Aside from providing an application to help Filipinas find a match, Balace’s team also hold events where they teach their female users how to choose a date and not depend merely on a guy’s looks.
