The most unproductive spot at the office you should avoid

Alixandra Caole Vila - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Do you know that the space you are occupying in your office affect the way to perform? If you want to have a productive day at the office, you should stay away from this spot.

A new survey finds that sitting beside or near the printer and copy stations affect one's productivity. The area is basically a dead spot that all workers must avoid at all cost.

A study conducted by Brother International Corporation says that workers spend 13 hours a year fidgeting with these machines, therefore making each day less productive.

According to the conducted survey, the are has become a gathering spot in which people usually flock to gossip. Although those deeds only take up a little time of you a day, setting your mind back on track add up to those minutes. Previous studies have shown that disrupted work productivity results to ‘mind block.’ Getting your focus back is one of the challenges that make it worse.

Time reports that the Brother’s survey finds that more than 60 percent of workers say they chat with co-workers at print and copy stations, and many of those conversations aren’t about work. Those non-work conversations make people 98 percent more likely to stop by a colleague’s desk to talk about non-work topics.

Aside from that, staying too close from the printer and copy machines may also harm your health because of the radiation.

There are many ways to be productive at the office. One of which is putting a plant on your office desk. Keeping plants in the office can help clean the air and even improve your health. Helen Russell, an environmental psychologist wrote on her dissertation at Surrey University in the U.K. that plants in the office can reduce stress. You may also take the spot with an access to natural sunlight. Vitamin D is the best energizer after all.

Always remember that the physical space has a great impact on the way you work.
