Open-door policy

The Philippine Star

The whole nation must set its eyes on the fact that it will win over China on the claim over disputed Ayungin and Panatag Shoals. China is quick to say that our country is damaging its ties with them when Phl filed the “Memorial” this week. But it is not only Phl which is affected, but other neighboring Asian countries. Our government is very optimistic that it will get strong international support for Phl claim is valid.

The Philippines doesn’t want to go to war with China and hopes that through diplomatic means, the issue will be resolved and that China will sit down and talk, as it has also expressed that their doors are open for talks. If this is the case, the government must look to settle the issue bilaterally. Perhaps this is a better resolution to the problem. Let’s not pass the opportunity for talks as it is the best way. In so doing, we hope China’s harassment and incursion will stop, and fresh friendly relations will be renewed and maintained.

Our government is right in invoking our Constitutional rights on our sea boundaries, but it should also consider all possibilities that make sure it will not further strain our ties with China. – Jomien Sanvictores Jr., Mabini St., Malate, Manila
