Sta. Cruz Parish

Santa Cruz Church is essentially Baroque and somewhat reminiscent of the Spanish-built mission churches in Southern California. That was its present structure since it was severely damaged by earthquakes and bombings during World War II. Sta. Cruz Church was built by Jesuits in 1608 as a parish church for the growing Chinese immigrants in Manila. In 1643, Jesuits enshrined the image of the Our Lady of Pilar to serve the predominantly Chinese residents in the area. Nuestra Señora del Pilar generated a lot of devotees who celebrates her feast day every October 12. Christine Joy Caloracan (Photo by RP Ocampo)
