Facelift in a capsule

MANILA, Philippines — The state or condition of the health of a person can usually be seen in the condition of the skin. “So you know when a person is sick. When the skin is yellow, for example, that means there’s a problem with the liver. The three-month study was designed and conducted by the VMV Skin Research Centre + Clinics, led by founding physician and VSRC program director, Dr. Vermen M. Verallo-Rowell, “the mother of dermatology in Asia,” says Dr. Joseph. The random, double-blind clinical trial involved 84 participants ranging in age from 35 to 60 years old, over a two-month period of Novuskin Lift intake, followed by one month without intake.
The test subjects were divided into three groups, with one group taking the capsules once a day, another group taking the capsules twice a day, and a third group receiving placebos. A total of P2.5 M was invested for the product testing.
Measurements were taken every four weeks to determine skin elasticity and skin hydration levels. “Wrinkling and sagging of the skin due to aging is associated with diminished elasticity,” Dr. Joseph explains. “To measure skin elasticity, the suction method using the Cutometer was used to measure the resistance of the skin to negative pressure (firmness) and its ability to return to its original (elasticity). The study observed a significant increasing trend for elasticity within two months of Novuskin Lift intake and was even maintained after four weeks off the treatment.”
As part of normal skin metabolism, a certain level of water loss is expected.
“However, if the barrier function is damaged due to aging, water evaporation increases,” Dr. Joseph describes. “To measure water evaporation from the skin, or transepidermal water loss (TEWL), a Tewameter was used. The readings showed a decreasing trend for TEWL after two months of Novuskin Lift use, and a return to baseline levels after one month of discontinued use. The Corneometer was also used to measure the amount of water absorbed by the skin surface. The study found there was an increase in water absorption after one month of using Novuskin Lift and rates went back to the original reading after one month of discontinued use.”
