Parenthood is a journey that is best shared with others. At least, that is what I personally believe. I know it might sound cliché to some but raising kids really is easier when it’s done with other people – people who will support you, and give you encouragement and practical tips along the way.

“It takes a village to raise a child,” so goes an African proverb, and it pretty much applies to anywhere else in the world, including the Philippines. I’m guessing this is one of the main reasons why events related to parenting are usually well-received – they become venues where one can find people who can be part of one’s “village.”

This weekend’s Parenting Festival at Shangri-La Plaza is one such venue.

Dubbed “A Parenting Festival at Shang,” the event is set to take place between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 20, 2017, at the Shangri-La Mall East Wing, Center Activity Area. The Festival, a project of Parentin.TV and Shangri-La Plaza, is also brought to the public by The Parenting Emporium, Incy Rooms and FirstBike Philippines.

Aside from booths featuring suppliers and brands that provide solutions for different parenting concerns, the festival will also have kiddie activities and hourly raffle draws. This means that parents can take a look at the various products on display while their kids have fun.

The highlight of the festival, though, would be the different talks lined up for attendees. Topics to be covered include nursery tips by Incy Rooms and how to teach children to ride a bike by FirstBike.

Celebrity mom Mickey Ferriols will speak about “pursuing your passion beyond motherhood,” and she will share specifically about her passion for art.

Nikki Valdez, another celebrity mom, will talk about how to encourage your child to pursue her passion. Nikki will draw from her own experience with her daughter, who is passionate about gymnastics.

Joining Mickey and Nikki is their fellow celebrity mom Niña Corpuz, who will be holding the “soft launch” of her book “How to Raise a Superstar” at the Festival. Niña will be joined by developmental pediatrician Dr. Francis Dimalanta. Both of them are encouraging parents to attend their interactive launch/session, armed with whatever questions they may have about parenthood.

Tintin Babao, the founder of Parentin.TV, will also be at the festival of course. She hopes parents (and even non-parents!) will come away from the event inspired, encouraged and empowered with practical tips from the different speakers – and maybe even “parenting tools” in the forms of services or products – that will help them on their respective journeys.

So if you are free this Sunday and can drop by Shangri-La Plaza in Mandaluyong City for the Parenting Festival, you are most welcome to do so. Entrance is free, and the first 100 to register via 0917-8110821 will receive a loot bag from the organizers. Of course, whether or not you qualify to receive a loot bag, the event itself promises to be an information-packed one that will benefit those attending.
