Golf is among the sports that I have been actively pushing because I believe we can excel in this sport, just like football and badminton, more than others.
Don’t get me wrong, like every basketball-crazy Filipino, I’m all for hoops and its growth, but internationally we are hard pressed to excel because height is a telling factor.
In the aforementioned sports, skills and pure talent can help you win on the world’s biggest stage. Look at badminton world’s number one, Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia, his body structure is very similar to ours.
Jason Day, one of the world’s best golfers, is half-Filipino, and he has shown he can slug it out with the big guns in the sport!
That’s why I was very happy to have been invited to play in the 5th Oakley Cup, because I not only had the chance to meet a number of our young talented golfers, I also was able to see how bright our future could be, as long as we continue to sustain the programs we have in place.
This annual charity event benefited The Junior Golfers League (TJGL) to encourage a thriving competitive golf future for the country by developing the potential of young, talented golfers such as the TJGL, the grassroots development league of the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines.
