CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Council approved an allocation of almost P2 million for the renovation of the City Mayor's office.

During the city's regular session last Tuesday, Councilor Richard Francis Aznar authored a resolution requesting Mayor Eduardo Gullas to enter into contract with V.O. Chupuico Construction for the rehabilitation of the office.

The resolution said the total contract amounts to P1,999,900 which covers all the expenses such as labor and materials needed.

City Engineer Gamaliel Vicente said that it would be the first time that the office would be refurnished since it was first used in 2004.

Based on the periodic maintenance, Talisay City Hall's renovation is already long overdue.

Vicente said it is standard protocol for building offices to be renovated every five years.

The contract amount covers the renovation of four rooms — the mayor’s office including the conference room, bathroom and the kitchen and dining area with a total area of 237 square meters.

On the costing, they allocated at least P5,000 cost per square meter intended for the mayor’s office including the conference room, and P10,000 per square meter costing for the bathroom and kitchen and dining.

“Wala ta kahibaw kung nakita na nato, mas dako ang ayuhonon sa ilawom unya wala na nato nakita pag-costing nato,” Vicente said.

He added that renovation would require skilled workers considering that there may be unforeseen items that could come up during the construction. (FREEMAN)
