How Chris Tiu keeps fit while on the road

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Basketball Association has just started its latest season, and prior to this, rain or shine captain Chris Tiu took full advantage of the break. As with the other aspects of his life, he spent his time wisely by traveling. “The last off-season was a busy one for me and my wife Clarisse. We were busy hopping in and out of planes and checking into hotels!” he laughs.

“The reason we went on a European trip was to join in on the celebration of the beatification of Bishop Alvaro of Opus Dei. My mother and my mother-in-law are both members of the work, so we made a family trip out of it.” He adds that there were some side trips for business meetings, but it was mainly for pleasure.

“My wife and I first went to London to watch Miss Saigon and to Lyon to visit my little sister who is doing her exchange program. Then we met up with the family in Madrid and did a road trip from there.”

He recounts that they drove around nearby cities such as Toledo, Segovia, Pamplona, San Sebastian, Bilbao, and Avila.

The couple also went on a whirlwind tour that spanned New York, Peru, and then Vancouver in Canada. “It was one of the most amazing vacations I’ve had, probably next to South Africa. It was such a wonderful and enriching experience!” he reminisces with a smile.

When Chris travels, his “must-haves” include the following: medicines, Poten-Cee Forte Vitamin C, his iPod, and cell phone.   Even when he is away from home, he never forgets to get enough exercise, and to stick to his health routine.

“My wife teases me that I am too disciplined — that I am afraid to get out of shape or to get sick even when we are on vacation!” he says with a laugh.  “I see to it that there’s a gym when we book a hotel. When there’s downtime, I’d grab my sneakers to lift weights or run on the treadmill. But if there’s no gym, like our hotel in Bilbao, I’d just run by the riverbanks or the parks. Then I would create improvised body workouts using whatever I see around me — the benches, steps, or bars.  For me, I just need 30 to 45 minutes for a short but high-intensity workout. That way, I get in shape and I can eat more!”

Chris also does other things to make sure he is healthy when on a trip. “I make sure I get enough sleep. I fix my body to fight off jet lag by taking afternoon naps. I hydrate well and make sure I take my vitamin C regularly so my immune system is up and I don’t catch the flu. Poten-Cee Forte is my choice of vitamin C. It’s reliable and it doesn’t make me acidic.”

Studies show that vitamin C is one of the many antioxidants that can help protect the body from sickness and the effects of stress brought about by daily activities or special tasks such as traveling.

Poten-Cee Forte is the only vitamin C on the market that has an eight-hour time-release formula that gradually releases 1,000mg of vitamin C over a prolonged period of up to eight hours, which helps to ensure that the body has enough supply of the antioxidant, for a whole day of travel and adventures.

Poten-Cee Forte is available in drugstores and selected supermarkets nationwide.
