Barangay Greenhills gets physical

REAL SPORTS SCENE - Anthony Suntay - The Philippine Star

Physical fitness is now first and foremost on everyone’s minds!

And that’s exactly why the officers of Barangay Greenhills, led by their Kapitan Alan Yam, decided to incorporate the Fiesta Run, a 3k and 5k fun run, into their activities for their fiesta.

There were other events to commemorate the occasion, like a car show and other activities around the locale, but a lot were focused on making it a “healthy day”!

Numerous runners answered the gun start for both events, which saw runners of all ages participating to run around the Greenhills Shopping Complex, where they would usually dine and shop, and its underlying areas.

Bright and early Sunday, the runners experienced something different as they saw the sunrise, while they competed to run away with the medals and prizes from the different sponsors.

The Fiesta Run 2014 was sponsored by Greenhills Shopping Center, Ortigas & Co., Health Cube, Gatorade, Soleus, Max’s Restaurant, Jamba Juice, Krispy Kreme, McDonald’s, Choi Garden, Chili’s, and Monster.

The winners of the event, meant to bring together the members of the barangay and their surrounding neighbors, were:

• 3k male — Max Onto , 1st; Rolando Balingit, 2nd; Kael Suntay, 3rd.

• 3k female — Mikki Yam, 1st; Lia Diwa, 2nd; Janice Lim, 3rd.

• 5k male — Nelson Eligiran, 1st; Charles Bituon, 2nd; Hermie Garcia, 3rd.

• 5k female — Veronica Carion, 1st; Sabrina Asis, 2nd; Sanaz Dehghan, 3rd.

“I was overwhelmed by the success of this year’s fun run! Greenhills is known as an exercise destination for jogging, walking, biking, dancing, taichi, aerobics, etc. and a lot of establishments know this, as seen by the number of restaurants open for breakfast. Hopefully, next year’s fiesta fun run will get more of these people involved and join our yearly activity. We will be more prepared and we’ll even include a 10k, and we’re looking at a 21k for the more serious runners for the following year,” exclaimed Yam after the event.

Bigger and brighter things are in store for the area in the years to come.

Gotta run now, see you next year!
