Lacson vows to revive probe on Jose Pidal account

MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Panfilo Lacson vowed yesterday to revive the investigation into the controversial Jose Pidal account to prove that it does not belong to Negros Occidental Rep. Ignacio Arroyo, brother-in-law of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

“I am ready to prove that Iggy Arroyo was not Jose Pidal. When the time comes, we will present evidence as to who Jose Pidal really is,” Lacson told reporters at Camp Crame in Quezon City where he was guest of honor and speaker during the flag ceremony yesterday.

Lacson said there is still no closure in the Senate investigation on the real identity of Jose Pidal, whom Lacson said was an alias of Mrs. Arroyo’s husband, former first gentleman Mike Arroyo who allegedly opened the bank account to launder money.

The senator’s official website stated that in 2003, Lacson exposed the money-laundering activities of the head of the Arroyo government’s “Department of the Underground:” no less than “The Incredible Hulk,” first gentleman Jose Miguel Tuason Arroyo. In the process, Jose Pidal, the name used by attorney Arroyo to set up secret bank accounts to launder the money, became a household name.

Lacson had identified businessman Kelvin Tan, Thomas Toh Jr. and his sister – the first gentleman’s secretary/accountant Vicky Toh – as co-conspirators.

Vicky Toh and Jose Miguel Arroyo were later found to be business partners.

Lacson said he has new evidence on the Jose Pidal account.

“I’m not – for those who would dare say – in a time warp; there’s no closure and resolution to the investigation (yet),” Lacson added.
