BJMP: No special treatment for Faeldon

Ex-Bureau of Customs chief Nicanor Faeldon failed to get temporary relief on his petition to nullify his arrest from the Supreme Court. The BJMP, meanwhile, assured that no special treatment will be given to the now-Office of Civil Defense official. Senate of the Philippines Facebook

MANILA, Philippines — No special treatment will be given to former Customs chief Nicanor Faeldon, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology official said on Tuesday.

Senior Inspector Xavier Solda, BJMP Spokesperson, said that Faeldon has no bed when he arrived at the compound. The former Customs chief and now Office of the Civil Defense deputy administrator will have to stay with other inmates, Solda added.

"Our area is a little crowded. We only have a small area," BJMP spokesperson also said.

After months-long detention in the Senate, Faeldon was transferred to the Pasay City Jail on Tuesday noon, following the order issued by the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee.

"We would like to reiterate that no special treatment will be given by the BJMP to them," Solda stressed.

Faeldon was supposed to be transferred on Monday night, but supposed sanitary issues delayed the move.

His blood pressure also shot up following the hours-long hearing in the Senate on the P6.4 billion shabu shipment that slipped past through Customs.

Faeldon also sought the Supreme Court for his immediate release from detention. He filed a 30-page petition asking for a halt order on the Senate's arrest order.

The SC, that meets full court every Tuesday, has yet to grant an immediate relief to Faeldon's case.

The Department of National Defense—head agency of the OCD—has yet to issue a statement on how Faeldon's detention at the Pasay City jail will affect the discharge of his duties as OCD official.
