MANILA, Philippines — The number of families affected by the series of eruptions of Mayon Volcano in Albay has reached 22,918 or 89,109 individuals, the Department of Social Welfare and Development said.

As of 6 am Monday, there are 18,291 families or 69,425 persons seeking temporary shelters in 74 evacuation centers, while 2,822 families or 11,946 individuals are still staying with their relatives in the municipalities of Camalig, Daraga, Malipot and Santo Domingo.

The government has already provided a total of P56,463,903 worth of assistance, coming from the DSWD, Department of Health, Office of Civil Defense and local government units.

President Rodrigo Duterte is scheduled to visit Albay today to check the condition of the communities affected by the restiveness of the country’s most active volcano.

According to the bulletin of Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology Monday, Mayon spewed four episodes of sporadic lava fountaining Sunday. These episodes lasted up to 57 minutes.

Heavy rainfall in the past two days generated lahar along the Binaan Channel and sediment-laden streamflows in channels.

Phivolcs also recorded 41 volcanic earthquakes, six tremor events and 16 rockfall events.

Alert Level 4, which means a hazardous eruption is imminent, is still hoisted over Mayon Volcano. Phivolcs has five alert levels, with Level 5 indicating that a hazardous eruption is already happening.
