MANILA, Philippines — The number of passengers stranded by bad weather from Tropical Depression Agaton has gone down to a little more than 500 as storm signals were lifted across the country on Wednesday morning.

However, Pagasa said that sea travel remains risky "over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and Southern Luzon, eastern seaboard of Central Luzon, eastern and western seaboards of Visayas, and eastern seaboard of Mindanao due to the surge of northeast monsoon and Agaton."

This left 582 passengers stranded at ports in Bicol and Northern Mindanao, according to the latest data from the Philippine Coast Guard.

In its 4:00 a.m. update, the PCG said that 470 are currently in Pulauan, Dapitan, 87 are in Nasipit, Butuan while 25 are in Bulan, Sorsogon ports.

Also waiting in ports are 48 rolling cargoes and four vessels.

Although storm signals are lifted, moderate to heavy rains will continue over the Visayas, Bicol region, Palawan and Quezon due to Agaton and tail end of a cold front, Pagasa said.

As of 4:00 a.m. of Wednesday, Agaton was located 175 kilometers west northwest of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.

It still packs a maximum wind of up to 55 kph with gustiness reaching to 65 kph. Agaton has slowed down its movement at 25 kph.

The state weather bureau said that Agaton is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility Thursday morning.

Agaton dumped continuous rains over Cebu and Metro Cebu since January 1, leaving two dead in Malabuyoc town.
