LPA off Surigao expected to develop into tropical depression
MANILA, Philippines — Expect a rainy first day of the year in Visayas and Mindanao.
The low pressure area that was last seen 545 kilometers east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte is expected to develop into a tropical depression sometime on Monday.
In its 4 a.m weather forecast, state weather bureau PAGASA said the tropical depression to be named ‘Agaton’ will hit the land over Eastern Visayas-Eastern Mindanao area Monday afternoon or Tuesday early morning.
Moderate to heavy rains which may trigger flashf loods and landslides are expected over Bicol region, Visayas and Mindanao as the weather system approaches.
PAGASA warned that maritime operations along Surigao, Davao Oriental, Dinagat Islands and Siargao and eastern seaboard of Leyte provinces will be disrupted should the LPA develop into a tropical depression.
Meanwhile, northeast monsoon will bring cloudy skies and scattered rain over the Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Regions, Aurora and Quezon and partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain over the rest of Luzon.
