No cyclone but rains this week — Pagasa

Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — No tropical cyclone is expected to hit the Philippines this week, although the northeast monsoon and the tail-end of a cold front will continue to bring rains in some parts of the country, the state weather bureau said yesterday.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the northeast monsoon will still bring light rains over parts of Northern and Central Luzon in the next three days.

PAGASA weather forecaster Samuel Duran said Metro Manila will experience good weather apart from isolated thunderstorms. The temperature is expected to reach 31 degrees Celsius in the country’s capital.

Duran said parts of Visayas and Mindanao will also experience rains due to the tail-end of a cold front.

PAGASA also warned the public against big waves in the seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon due to the surge of the northeast monsoon.

Rough to very rough seas will prevail over Batanes, Calayan, Babuyan, Cagayan, Isabela, Ilocos provinces, La Union, Pangasinan, Aurora and Zambales.

The provinces of Catanduanes, northern Quezon, Polillo Island, and the northern and eastern seaboards of Camarines provinces will also experience rough to very rough seas.

Waves as high as five meters are expected to hit these areas, PAGASA warned.

“Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” it said.
