Alvarez: No politics in ‘Biyaya ng Pagbabago’

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez insisted there is no politics involved in the “Biyaya ng Pagbabago” mechanism launched here yesterday afternoon in support of President Duterte’s election promises to deliver government service to the people. 

“This Biyaya ng Pagbabago is not a political party. This is not about politics. It is a support group, especially among those who are involved in the commitment of the President during the elections,” he said. 

Alvarez said the Biyaya ng Pagbabago is intended to bring about real change in the country. 

“It would be good if we will also be one at this time that the President really needs our support for he really looks after the welfare of our entire country,” Alvarez said. 

The Biyaya ng Pagbabago is spearheaded by the Office of the Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco.

The Speaker likewise lamented how certain groups continue to pull Duterte down.

The main thoroughfares of Davao City were closed to traffic yesterday as thousands converged for the Biyaya ng Pagbabago program aimed at supporting the anti-poverty efforts of the President.

The program was launched in simple ceremonies led by Alvarez here at the Freedom Park where booths of the various government agencies were set up to offer different services to the people.

The mechanism is provided in Executive Order No. 1 wherein other agencies concerned are also tapped to lend a hand in bringing government closer to the people, among them the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, National Commission on Muslim Filipinos, National Food Authority, National Youth Commission, Office of the President, Presidential Action Center, Philippine Commission on Women and the Presidential Commission on Urban Poor as well as the Philippine Coconut Authority, Cooperative Development Authority, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council and the  National Anti-Poverty Commission.

The Biyaya ng Pagbabago is geared towards ensuring that people have easy access to the different services of government.
