PNP: No leave for cops during Christmas, New Year holidays

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Dionardo Carlos said there would be no holiday break for cops.
Carlos said PNP chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa made the order.
“Kahit naka-break po kami du-duty kami. (Even if we are on break we will be on duty,)” Carlos said in an interview with CNN Philippines’ The Source last Tuesday.
“We will be monitoring Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve,” he added.
Among the incidents which would be monitored by the police force are theft and robbery incidents and indiscriminate firing.
Carlos said “Ligtas Pasko 2017” would be in place to secure the public in commercial centers, terminals and tourist spots.
“After the successful ASEAN summit deployment, we now focus on securing kababayans during the Christmas season,” the police spokesperson said.
Carlos said about 10,000 cops would be designated in Metro Manila while there would also be police force deployed in different areas of the entire country. He said there would be established police assistance desk in commercial areas.
The PNP spokesman also advised the public to be vigilant during the holidays and report possession of firearms and indiscriminate firing in their area so that the police could immediately trace the firing incident.
“There is a [reporting] system for that,” Carlos said in Filipino.
Malacañang declared December 25 and 30-31 and January 1 as non-working holidays. — Rosette Adel
