UP Manila opposes medical marijuana?

Sheila Crisostomo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The University of the Philippines-Manila is opposing the legalization of medical cannabis or marijuana, saying this poses a “serious threat to public health.”?

In a position paper, the university argued that the use of marijuana, even for medical purposes only, should not be allowed in the country.

It is also objecting to House bills 6517, 180 and 4477 because these “clearly threaten the health and safety of the Filipino and the institutions established to safeguard these, in the guise of forwarding research and providing access to medical cannabis.”?“We the Technical Working Group on Medical Cannabis Legalization and Concerned Faculty Members of the UP-Manila express our strongest objection to House Bill 6517, 180 and 4477 proposing to legalize medical cannabis,” the two-page position paper reads.

The group stressed that “the current limited evidence on the efficacy of medical cannabis, the strong evidence on its harmful effects, as well as its negative health impact in the face of increasing cannabis potency makes legalization of medical cannabis in the country a serious threat to public health.”
