PNP imposes 15-day gun ban for ASEAN
MANILA, Philippines — The PNP has imposed a gun ban in the National Capital Region, Region 3 and Region 4A from November 1 to 15 to ensure the safety of heads of states and delegates at the upcoming ASEAN Summit.
The meetings for the ASEAN Summit 2017 will be held in Metro Manila, in Clark, Pampanga and in Los Baños, Laguna.
The heads of state of participating ASEAN member-states and dialogue partners will be arriving through Clark International Airport in Pampanga starting November 9.
"In view of the foregoing, all Permit to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence are hereby suspended for a period of 15 days from November 1 t 15, 2017 in Regions 3, 4A, and NCR as part of the security measures to ensure the safety of the leaders of ASEAN-member countries and other delegates," the memorandum read.
Aside from Metro Manila, the gun ban covers the provinces of Aurora, Bataan, Batangas, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Quezon, Rizal, Tarlac and Zambales.
Only members or officers of the police, military and other law enforcement agencies of the government will be allowed to carry firearms during the period.
According to the PNP, all persons in civilian attire carrying firearms will be presumed unauthorized to carry and will be subject to arrest and investigation. — Patricia Lourdes Viray
