Panel ready to submit recommendation on nat’l broadband plan
MANILA, Philippines — The inter-agency body formed to review the government’s national broadband plan is ready to submit a “comprehensive” recommendation to President Duterte to enhance internet access in the country, Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar said yesterday.
According to Andanar, the Info Tech Review Committee met last Friday to finalize the recommendation.
“Our recommended solution will be very practical, good and a fast one which will make our kababayans (countrymen) in the hinterlands and islands happy,” Andanar said in a text message.
Andanar declined to elaborate on the recommendation, which may be discussed before or during the next Cabinet meeting.
Earlier this month, Duterte created an inter-agency body that would look into the government’s broadband plan to provide internet connection to remote areas.
The committee is led by National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr. and consisted of the heads of the PCOO, the Department of Information and Communications Technology and Presidential Adviser on Economic Affairs and Information Technology Communications Ramon Jacinto.
Andanar previously said the committee was ordered to review all options to establish internet connection and enhance connectivity in the country.
