SWS: Satisfaction with Rody gov’t remains ‘very good’
MANILA, Philippines — The number of Filipinos satisfied with the performance of President Duterte’s government continued to fall but stayed in “very good territory” in the latest survey by Social Weather Stations (SWS).
The administration obtained a “very good” +58 net public satisfaction rating (71 percent satisfied, 13 percent dissatisfied) in the third quarter, down six points from the very good +64 (75 percent satisfied, 11 percent dissatisfied) in June.
It was lower by eight points from the +66 net satisfaction rating (75 percent satisfied, nine percent dissatisfied) from the poll in March.
The results of the Sept. 23 to 27 survey were published in BusinessWorld yesterday.
The pollster said the six-point drop in the administration’s net satisfaction rating was recorded in Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.
It fell 16 points in Metro Manila, from +67 in June to +51 in September, and 11 points in balance Luzon, from +63 to +52.
The government’s public satisfaction rating increased by a single point in the Visayas, from +56 to +57, and by two points in Mindanao, from +72 in June to +74.
Public satisfaction with the administration suffered a 22-point decline among class E respondents, from +68 in June to +46 in September.
It fell four points among class D respondents, from +64 to +60, but increased five points among class ABC, from +55 to +60.
Specific issues
The Duterte administration obtained very good satisfaction rating in four specific issues: helping the poor (+67), protecting the environment (+58), defending the country’s territorial rights (+52) and providing jobs (+50).
It garnered good rating in terms of distributing lands to deserving tillers (+49), fighting terrorism (+47), protecting human rights (+46), foreign relations (+40), reconciling with Muslim rebels (+38), eradicating graft and corruption (+35), reconciling with communist rebels (+35) and fighting crime (+30).

Using interviews with 1,500 respondents, the poll had a margin of error of +/- 2.5 percent for national percentages.
The SWS classifies net trust ratings as follows: +70 and above, excellent; +50 to +69, very good; +30 to +49, good; +10 to +29, moderate; +9 to -9, neutral; -10 to -29, poor; -30 to -49, bad; -50 to -69, very bad; -70 and below, execrable.
‘Insane policies’
A militant youth group criticized the administration of President Duterte, calling his policies “beyond insane.”
Members of Anakbayan yesterday held a protest near Malacañang to denounce what it called the anti-Filipino policies of Duterte.
“Under the Duterte government, what was once called outrageous has become the norm. His consistent Machiavellian maneuvering has claimed the lives of thousands and violated the rights of the people,” Anakbayan chairman Vencer Crisostomo said.
Among the policies criticized by the group are the government’s war on drugs, demolition in urban poor communities and the supposed subservience of Duterte to the interests of the United States.
