Storm Paolo brewing
MANILA, Philippines — The low-pressure area over the Pacific Ocean yesterday intensified into a storm and was forecast to enter the Philippine area of responsibility.
The storm, with international name Lan, was spotted at 1,040 kilometers east of the Visayas as of 3 p.m. yesterday.
It packed winds of 80 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 95 kph.
It was forecast to move west northwest at 11 kph.
Once inside the Philippine area of responsibility, the storm will be given the local name Paolo.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the weather disturbance is not expected to directly affect any part of the country in the next 24 hours.
However, an inter-tropical convergence zone and the low-pressure area will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains over Eastern Visayas, Caraga, Davao region and Palawan until today.
PAGASA said Metro Manila and the rest of the country would have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light to occasional heavy rains due to localized thunderstorms.
Last week, Typhoon Odette (international name Khanun) brought heavy rains in Northern Luzon, flooding several areas.
