MANILA, Philippines — Twenty-six members of the House of Representatives have authored a resolution expressing support for the “constitutional independence” of the Office of the Ombudsman.

The lawmakers, most of them belonging to the pro-administration majority coalition in the House, affixed their signatures on the measure amid President Duterte’s threat to file an impeachment complaint against Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales.

Duterte’s allies in Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption are set to file a complaint against the ombudsman this week.

Many of those who signed the resolution belong to the Liberal Party but had joined the majority.

The signatories are Reps.
