MANILA, Philippines — President Duterte has assured the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) that the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) remains a priority of his administration and has vowed to meet with congressional leaders to fast-track its passage.
Duterte made the commitment in a meeting with MILF leaders in Malacañang Monday night, said presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella in a press briefing yesterday.
“(He) met with the leadership of MILF to discuss, among others, their concern about social media posts critical of their handling of the progress of the BBL bill,” Abella said.
“The President assured them that he considers this high priority and vital to the future of Mindanao and the nation. He’s asking to meet with the Senate President and Speaker of the House to facilitate the process,” he added.
Abella said Duterte had also thanked the MILF “for its strong support” for the fight against extremists in Mindanao. The President also cited the humanitarian efforts to save civilians in Marawi City and the continued operations of the MILF against terrorists.
