MANILA, Philippines — The  Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration on Tuesday morning said weather disturbance “Isang” (international name: “Hato”) has developed into a severe tropical storm as it moves westward.

The state weather bureau said it is expected to exit the country within a few hours.

“Maaari pong mamayang hapon inaasahan na pong lalabas ng PAR si bagyong Isang,” PAGASA weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said in a press briefing.

As of 10 a.m., Aurelio said “Isang's” eye was traced 20 kilometers west of Basco, Batanes.

It packs maximum sustained winds of 55 km per hour near the center and has a gustiness of up to 65 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 was hoisted in three northern provinces namely: Batanes Group of Islands, Babuyan Group of Islands and Ilocos Norte.

Aurelio said “Isang” is expected to move westward at 23 kilometers per hour.

PAGASA warned that central and northern Luzon and some areas in the Visayas would continue to experience moderate to occasionally heavy rains and strong winds due to the severe tropical storm. It also warned of possible landslide in some areas.
