Ride-sharing startup launches in Philippines amid Uber suspension

MANILA, Philippines — A ride-sharing startup app has launched its operations in Metro Manila and Cebu City following the order of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board to suspend Uber for 30 days.
Claiming to be an alternative for Uber, Arcade City announced that it is recruiting and activating drivers across the Philippines following the suspension of Uber.
"This has happened before. Arcade City wants to help make sure it never happens again," Arcade City said in its Facebook page.

Arcade City was first launched in Austin, Texas last year after the withdrawal of Uber and Lyft.
Drivers are free to set their own rates and riders are free to choose their own driver using the startup ride-sharing app.
"Now we bring that peer-to-peer model to the Philippines," Arcade City said.
According to Sen. Grace Poe, about 200,000 daily commuters would be affected by the temporary suspension of Uber.
The senator has called for a closed-door meeting between representatives of the LTFRB and Uber to resolve the issue. — Patricia Lourdes Viray
