Palace deploys ‘all available sources’ to aid Leyte
MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Friday asserted that it is deploying all resources to aid those affected by the magnitude 6.5 earthquake that hit Ormoc City, Leyte Thursday afternoon.
“The administration is deploying all available sources to rescue survivors and to return normalcy to the place,” Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said in a statement.
The administration also urged the public to remain resilient despite the major power outage and reported 241 aftershocks.
“We continue to call on the resilience spirit of the Filipino to close ranks against the vicissitudes confronting our people,” the statement read.
“No matter what, we will rise again and we will rise into our destined greatness,” it added.
The Malacañang issued the statement after the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council confirmed that two have died and 72 others were injured from the Leyte quake.
“We condole for those who lost their loved ones and we continue to stand with those who have loved ones who have been hurt,” Abella said.
According to the NDRRMC, majority of eastern Visayas are experiencing power failure because the switchyard of the geothermal plant located in Kananga, Leyte was also affected by the quake.
The Department of Energy and the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines are now holding an ongoing assessment on the extent of damage brought by the Leyte quake.
