MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Embassy in London is monitoring the situation in the city following an attack carried out near the Finsbury mosque in London early Monday morning.

According to London police, a vehicle struck pedestrians near a mosque, which killed one and injured 10 people.

"So far there are no known Filipino victims. The Embassy stands ready to offer assistance and calls on the Filipino community to reach out with any information on kababayans possibly affected by this attack," the Department of Foreign Affairs said in a statement released Tuesday.

The DFA condemned the attack which stood against the shared values of the Philippines and the United Kingdom as "peace-loving and tolerant societies that respect all religions."

"The Philippines expresses its condolences and sympathy with the victim, the injured, and their families, and reaffirms its solidarity with the United Kingdom in the fight against terrorism and all its forms," the statement read.

British media have named the suspect in Monday's mosque attack as 47-year-old Darren Osborne, a father of four who was living in Cardiff, Wales.

British Security Minister Ben Wallace said authorities were aware of rising far-right activity but were not aware of the suspect prior to the attack near the Finsbury mosque.

The large white van driven by Osborne apparently swerved into a group of Muslims who were leaving evening prayers. Police are treating the incident as a terror attack. — Patricia Lourdes Viray with Associated Press
