PopCom eyes expansion of urban family planning
MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Population (PopCom) is now on the lookout for partner-civil society organizations that could help in providing modern family planning information and services in urban poor communities.
PopCom executive director Juan Antonio Perez III said they are aiming to expand the Family Wellness Clinics so this would also cover poor communities in Metro Manila and neighboring regions to “complement existing service delivery mechanisms at the local government units (LGUs).”
He noted that these clinics provide basic medical checkup and medicines for clients.
PopCom is intensifying the responsible parenthood and family planning program and uses its Family Wellness clinics as a “viable strategy to contribute to the attainment of the goal of zero unmet need for family planning.”
Under the program, PopCom will collaborate with LGUs to expand the geographical reach and availability of family planning services from 2017 to 2022.
Perez said this would ensure that “generated demands for family planning services are responded to promptly and appropriately.”
