Año, martial law enforcer, gets 6 more months in AFP

Christina Mendez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - With his new role as “implementor” of martial law in Mindanao, Gen. Eduardo Año’s term as Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief has been extended for six months by President Duterte.

This means he has to hold off early retirement as well as his taking over the top position at the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Duterte on May 10 announced the appointment of Año to the top DILG post, replacing Ismael Sueno. Año was expected to assume the post of DILG secretary before his mandatory retirement from the AFP in October.

Meanwhile, Undersecretary Catalino Cuy remains as officer-in-charge at the DILG.
