PSC, City Hall suspend talks on RMSC

Abac Cordero - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - While things are actually on hold, the Philippine Sports Commission is taking the appropriate steps in anticipation of the sale of the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

PSC chairman William Ramirez said talks between the government sports agency and the City of Manila are on hold.

The Department of Justice has already issued a confirmatory letter calling Manila as the rightful owner of the RMSC, which was built in 1934. The PSC being the government agency has full control and supervision of the sports complex.

“Hindi kami magkasundo sa evaluation (We can’t agree on the evaluation),” said Ramirez yesterday, referring perhaps to the market value of the historic property measured at over eight hectares.

The lot is being eyed by the Razon Group, which is planning to turn the site into a modern commercial complex.

Whatever is generated out of the sale, the PSC will receive compensation in return for the all the money it spent in maintaining since 1990.
