MANILA, Philippines — The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo insisted Monday that the Department of the Interior and Local Government and the Philippine National Police received a letter requesting documents on their anti-drug operations.
In a press briefing on Monday, Barry Gutierrez, former Akbayan party-list representative and current legal counsel of the vice president, showed the letter sent to both the DILG and the PNP showing a stamp that it was received by the Office of the Chief of the PNP on January 30.
"Kaninang umaga nung binanggit ni Director General [Ronald] Dela Rosa na sila ay hindi nakatanggap ng sulat at kung nakatanggap man daw sila ito ay dapat naaksyunan e ang sagot namin e una, nakatanggap kayo ng sulat, malinaw na malinaw nung January 30, at pangalawa, kahit kayo ay nakatanggap ng sulat, hindi niyo ito kinilusan," Gutierrez said.
He added that the letter was sent more than a month before yet they have not received any response from the DILG nor the PNP.
The letter, dated January 24,  was addressed to Interior Secretary Ismael Sueno and was also sent to the PNP chief.
Robredo requested a list of police operations under Operation Double Barrel, a list of cases deemed as "deaths under investigation" and a list of cases deemed as concluded.
She added that she has been approached by citizens expressing concerns on the administration's anti-drugs campaign.
"These documents will allow me to respond more effectively to the issues that have been raised," Robredo said.
During a press briefing on Monday however, Dela Rosa denied receiving any letter from the Office of the Vice President.
He said however that the PNP will entertain any complaints.
"Kahit na ordinaryong tao, kahit hindi vice president ang mag-reklamo sa akin, aaksyunan ko talaga ‘yan, lalo na we are deep into our internal cleansing program ayaw natin mangyari 'yan," Dela Rosa said.
