NAGT Series, YOG tri qualifiers get underway in Camotes

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A merry mix of veterans and upcoming triathletes will plunge into action in the Cebu leg of the 2017 National Age-Group Triathlon (NAGT) Series and Youth Olympic Games qualifier today at the Santiago Bay in San Francisco, Camotes Island.

It’s going to be a triple treat for the people of SanFran as before the NAGT and YOG action, there will be an aquathlon to spice up the event billed as 'Amazing Camotes II'.

Among the top bets to watch are Andrew Kim Remolino and Karen Manayon of Talisay City.

Remolino, a member of the national triathlon junior squad, is the top male contender in the men’s division. He is no longer qualified for the YOG as he is already turning 17 this year. Next year’s YOG is an under-17 event.

Manayon, for her part, is eyeing for the no.1 spot of the YOG.

The NAGT Series features a mini-sprint and sprint distance that everything is expected to be done fast but not easy. The only thing that could possibly slow down the participants are the extreme heat and humid condition. (FREEMAN)
